Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive Moment of Adventure Green Ref. BN0157-11X |
When many of us think of quartz watches, we think of them as “inferior” to their mechanical counterparts. Common grievances about quartz watches include “they have no soul” and that they are “cheaply made and assembled.” However, we tend to forget that quartz watches nearly destroyed the Swiss watch industry in the 1970s/1980s - the period dubbed the quartz crisis. Additionally, the Citizen Promaster range has become so iconic since its debut in 1989, offering robust, well-made timepieces to the masses at an entry-level price point. Combine that with Citizen’s famous Eco-Drive movements, and you get an all-rounded package - the Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive - which is the watch we are looking at today.
The Promaster Eco-Drive Moment of Adventure Green is the latest Promaster in the respected Japanese brand’s lineup. With a theme of “the moment of adventure,” Citizen challenges fans to flip their perspectives and open up to new possibilities - the opportunity for adventure is not only to be found in the extreme environments of wild nature.

Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive calibre, the E168 |
With a 44mm diameter, the Promaster Moment of Adventure Green is definitely suited for urban and suburban adventures. With a 316L stainless steel construction, the watch has a brushed gun-metal grey finishing and looks the perfect part of a no-nonsense tool watch. Fret not, as the 44mm diver still wears well on the wrist despite its size, thanks to its relatively short 48mm lug-to-lug and thickness of a mere 11.5mm.
The watch features a matte dark green dial encompassed by a 60-click, unidirectional green aluminium bezel with minute markings all around. Circular indices are used throughout, except for the indices at 12, 3, 6, and 9 that utilises shield-like markers. A white date window is pleasantly integrated at 4, providing a helpful complication that does not stand out as much as you’d think. The iconic Promaster handset is used here, a style that proudly stands out from the more commonly used handsets on the market. Covering the dial is a piece of mineral crystal, which is in line with Japanese dive watches at this price point.

Multi-finished case |
The Promaster Eco-Drive Moment of Adventure Green is an ISO 6425 certified dive watch. Therefore, the watch is anti-magnetic and shock-resistant, with the screw-down crown and caseback combined to give the watch 200m of water resistance. The hands and indices are also generously coated with luminescent material, allowing for a brilliant glow in the dark.
Powering the timepiece is Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive calibre, the E168. It has a stated accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month and even features a low-battery indicator where the second hand will tick once every two seconds if it is nearing the end of its battery life. The movement is powered by light and thus will not require any battery replacements for its entire lifetime. That way, you will never need to open the caseback, ensuring that the watch maintains its factory seal and water resistance. When fully charged, the movement will be able to tick away for six consecutive months. Charging the watch is also extremely easy. There is no special LED lighting required, and both artificial and natural light will charge the battery up. Citizen’s Eco-Drive movements have been in use for decades and have proven to be super-efficient and robust.

Citizen pairs the Promaster Eco-Drive Moment of Adventure Green on a 20mm olive rubber strap. The strap is soft and pliable and features a signed Citizen buckle and tang. The colour of the strap perfectly complements the dial, too, making for a clean and conforming overall look.
This latest Promaster dive watch from Citizen retains the popular form factor of their past Eco-Drive Promaster divers while adding a refreshing new colour. The solar-powered movement ensures you never have to worry about your watch not functioning. You will also reduce the consumption of batteries as your watch will never require a battery swap! Now, that is a win-win in our books.
