Presage Automatic White "Baby GS Snowflake" Ref. SARX055

The Seiko Presage Automatic White "Baby GS Snowflake" Ref. SARX055 is the latest from the house of Seiko. Debut at Baselworld 2017 and one of the most anticipated Presage model from Seiko. It is a great balance between quality and price. Many call this the baby Grand Seiko Snowflake due to the high level of finishing to the case and bracelet and its resemblance to the GS SBGA011. This is probably the closest you can get to a GS Snowflake without paying the GS price.

Powered by Seiko's automatic caliber, 6R15, operating at 21,600 BPH (3 Hertzs) with hacking and hand winding capabilities. It has 23 jewels with a power reserve of 50 hours through a Spron 510 mainspring.

A gentlemen’s mechanical watch that can be worn on any occasion and feel proud of it especially for it's uncanny resemblence to its predigre “Grand Seiko” cousins. Part of the Presage lineup of dress watches, means that this is a step above the Spirit collection(SARB033) in terms of built and finishing. The SARX055 is fitted in a modest 40.8mm case with a slim profile of 11mm. The titanium case is treated with Seiko’s DiaShield coating on the case and bracelet. This provide scratch-protection and extra corrosion resistance.

Intricate finishing on the multi faceted case and bracelet

Now, the case is a piece of art by itself. The titanium case is finished in multiple finishing, polished on the faceted side and fine satin brushed on the top of the lugs. Titanium by nature is a dull material and it takes a special technique and experience to finish it to a mirror finshing. When was the last time you see a titanium case finished to this high standard? The use of titanium means this watch is extremely comfortable due to its weight or lack of. Like the SARX033 and GS, the bracelet is a highlight of the SARX055. The bracelet on the SARX055 is also made entirely from titanium. Each individual link is made up of 5 parts. Satin brushed on the 3 main parts and polished on the connecting parts. The 2 outer parts are oval and the 3 center parts are faceted to give the bracelet a sense of quality and dimensions.

The "snowflake" dial is probably the main highlight of the watch and where it got its nickname from. The silverish white snowflake dial is inspired by snow. The texture on the dial resembles frost that falls on one another in the winter. Couple this with polished applied indexes and polished dauphine hands and blue seconds hand, the dial is unique in its own way and we have difficulty putting a finger on what makes this watch so attractive. A feeling inside that makes you want to take a second glance. And to top it all, the sapphire crystal treated with a super-clear coating that makes the crystal disappear and make time reading easily in any lighting conditions. One can easily spend hours looking at the watch to admire the intricate details that Seiko has put into this excellent dress watch. This is a classic case of when less is more.
